Simon Wilby
The man who dared to imagine a world without language barriers—and then built the technology to make it real.

"A world where everyone can understand everyone else isn't a fantasy—it's a technical problem we can solve."
Why I Created Utopia Audio
It started with a moment of profound frustration. I was in a small village in rural Japan, sitting with an elderly craftsman who had spent 60 years perfecting the art of traditional pottery. His eyes sparkled as he tried to share the stories behind each piece—the techniques passed down through generations, the philosophy embedded in every curve.
But I couldn't understand a word.
We used gestures. We drew pictures. We laughed at our failed attempts to communicate. But as I left that workshop, I felt a deep sadness. How much wisdom, how many stories, how much human connection was being lost every single day because of language barriers?
That night, I made a promise to myself: I would dedicate my life to ensuring that no one would ever again miss out on human connection because of the language they speak.
A Global Perspective
Having traveled to over 50 countries, I've experienced both the beauty of our linguistic diversity and the tragedy of miscommunication. Every culture has wisdom to share—we just need the tools to listen.
The Voice Obsession
Early translation tools stripped away personality. I became obsessed with preserving the human voice—because when you change how someone sounds, you change who they are.
"I believe that within our lifetime, language barriers will be as obsolete as the telegraph. Not because we'll all speak the same language—but because technology will finally allow us to truly hear each other."
— Simon Wilby, Founder of Utopia Audio
From Vision to Reality
The path to Utopia Audio wasn't straight—it was a journey of discovery, failure, persistence, and breakthrough.
A Global Childhood
Born into a family that valued exploration and cultural exchange, Simon spent his formative years traveling across continents. By age 18, he had visited over 40 countries, experiencing firsthand both the beauty of human diversity and the frustration of language barriers.
The Spark That Changed Everything
While watching a brilliant Japanese documentary that had no subtitles, Simon realized that countless stories, knowledge, and human experiences were locked away behind language walls. In that moment, he committed his life to tearing down those walls.
Building the Foundation
Simon founded multiple successful technology companies, each one bringing him closer to his ultimate vision. He built expertise in AI, audio processing, and real-time systems—the building blocks that would eventually become Utopia Audio.
The Voice-Matching Breakthrough
After years of research and failed experiments, Simon's team achieved what many thought impossible: AI that could translate speech while preserving the original speaker's voice, tone, and emotional nuance. This breakthrough became the cornerstone of Utopia Audio.
Utopia Audio is Born
With a clear vision and revolutionary technology, Simon officially launched Utopia Audio. The name 'Utopia' reflects his belief that a world without language barriers is not just possible—it's achievable in our lifetime.
Leading the Revolution
Today, Simon leads a global team of engineers, linguists, and dreamers united by a single mission: to ensure that language never again prevents human connection. Under his leadership, Utopia Audio serves millions of users worldwide.
The Principles That Guide Me
These beliefs shape every decision at Utopia Audio—from product design to company culture.
Language is Not a Barrier—It's a Bridge
Simon believes that every language carries unique wisdom, humor, and ways of seeing the world. Rather than homogenizing communication, Utopia Audio celebrates linguistic diversity by making all languages accessible to everyone.
Technology Should Be Invisible
The best technology disappears into the background. Simon insists that Utopia Audio should feel so natural that users forget they're using a translation tool—they just experience content as if it were created in their native language.
Voice is Identity
A person's voice carries their soul—their personality, their passion, their authenticity. Simon's obsession with voice-matching technology stems from his belief that translation should preserve who someone is, not just what they say.
Accessibility is a Human Right
Simon firmly believes that access to the world's knowledge, entertainment, and connections should not depend on which language you were born speaking. This drives Utopia Audio's commitment to affordability and global availability.
Quotes from Simon Wilby
"I've seen a grandmother in Tokyo cry while finally understanding her American grandson's wedding speech. I've watched students in rural Africa access world-class lectures for the first time. These moments aren't just metrics to me—they're why I wake up every morning."
— On the impact of Utopia Audio
"Every language contains thousands of years of human wisdom, poetry, and ways of understanding the universe. When we break language barriers, we don't just translate words—we unlock the collective knowledge of humanity."
— On the importance of language accessibility
"The voice is the most intimate form of human expression. When you hear someone speak, you hear their personality, their passion, their truth. That's why I insisted our AI must preserve the original voice—because translation without soul isn't really translation at all."
— On voice-matching technology
"People ask me why I named it 'Utopia.' Because I genuinely believe a world where everyone can understand everyone else isn't a fantasy—it's a technical problem we can solve. And we're solving it."

The Wilby Ecosystem
Beyond Utopia Audio, Simon has built a portfolio of innovative companies pushing the boundaries of AI, media, and communication technology.
A World Without Language Barriers
I see a future where a child in rural India can learn from the world's best teachers, regardless of the language they speak. Where a doctor in Brazil can instantly access life-saving research published in Mandarin. Where families separated by language can finally have the conversations they've always wanted to have.
This isn't science fiction. It's what we're building at Utopia Audio, one breakthrough at a time.
The tower of Babel has stood for long enough. It's time to tear it down.
